LIVE REVIEW: The Burning Lantern Fayre at St Fagans Museum Cardiff

The Burning Lantern Fayre is a brand new music festival for Wales. The huge event will be held annually at the St Fagans Museum in Cardiff, and yesterday (August 12th) saw the debut Burning Lantern Fayre take place. And we were there to witness the brilliant entertainment.

At around 5pm the festival kicked off with a very entertaining live-set from Welsh band Into The Ark. The homegrown duo who were finalists on the last season of The Voice UK, were well received and sang a number of tracks which got the crowd warmed up on a chilly August afternoon.

After Into The Ark exited the stage it was time for some Motown with Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. Although not to everyone’s taste, the crowd a mix of all ages gave the trio a warm response with a number of attendees singing along in full voice. Their set showcased the mix of music on offer at the Wales’ new leading festival.

At around 7pm, the main stage was set up for the arrival of the UK’s fastest-selling country music act of all time; The Shires. Ben and Crissie entered the stage to mass cheers, and got the crowd dancing and singing along as the chill set in. Their 45-minute stellar set included a string of their biggest hits including; ‘My Universe’, ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’, ‘Nashville Grey Skies’, ‘Friday Night’, ‘A Thousand Hallelujahs ‘ and more. The 8,000 capacity crowd were thoroughly entertained by the duo, and they promised to return to Cardiff soon. The Shires were definitely the highlight of the first Burning Lantern Fayre

After The Shires left the stage to huge cheers, it was time for Jack Savoretti. The singer was welcomed by the Welsh crowd with loud cheers, and his set went down a storm. His live set included performances of his many hits including; ‘When We Were Lovers’, ‘I’m Yours’, ‘Tie Me Down’, and more.

At around 9.30 it was time for the headline act to enter the stage; Tom Odell. The Brit Award winning singer was welcomed to the main stage by huge cheers from the Cardiff crowd. His electrifying set featured a wonderful light show, and his intense performance went down a storm with the capacity audience. His unique show featured a number of hits including; ‘Still Getting Used To Being On My Own’, ‘Concrete’, ‘Hold Me’, and many more.

The first ever Burning Lantern Fayre was a huge success, with 8,000 fans of all ages enjoying a variety of music from many genres. The weather held out making for a sunny all-be-it rather cold afternoon/evening. Everyone seemed to enjoy the buzz of Wales’ newest music event, and we hope it is the first Lantern Fayre of many.
