Inside Australias new 75 per cent off shopping centre

The finishing touches are being put on Australia’s newest discount shopping centre, as one city goes wild for the deals coming its way.

The District Outlet Centre in Parafield, Adelaide, is set to open its doors for the first time on Saturday, making way for year-round sales for SA bargain-hunters.

More than 50 stores will be housed in the $50 million development, including Kathmandu, Cotton On and New Balance — and they’ll all offer mind-boggling discounts.

Most stores in the 15,000-square-metre centre have a minimum discount of 30 per cent written into their lease, but many are offering additional incentives for savvy shoppers to celebrate the grand opening, including selected items advertised at 75 per cent off.

“There will be plenty of bargains to find with most of our stores offering additional discounts and giveaways,” centre manager Melinda Fremlin told The Advertiser.

“The excitement in the lead up to this weekend has been electric and we’re expecting thousands of people to walk through the doors on opening day.”

The opening weekend will also feature live DJ performances, kids entertainment and more. Visitors will have the chance to win incredible prizes, with $1000 in giveaways that will be available to win on opening weekend.

The centre’s indoor design, similar to those found in other states, will allow shoppers to enter from one spot, travel around the precinct and finish off where they started.

Its carpark is home to almost 600 fee-free parking spaces, while a food court overlooking the Parafield airport runway is available when hunger strikes.

Project developer Brett Lovett said the brand new shopping centre, which is SA’s only undercover discount shopping precinct, offers a welcome economic boost to the area.

Hundreds of job vacancies are available for both centre management roles and retail work.

“Most people should be selling stock that is 30 per cent discount to what you pay on high street,” Mr Lovett told Channel 9.

“People want to get a bargain so hopefully it’ll do well.”

South Australians keen to get through the doors took to social media to express their excitement.

“Finally!” one woman wrote.

“It’s so close to being done, can’t wait!”
