On July 18, 1997, Bam Adebayo was born in Newark, New Jersey, United States. His Father, John Adebayo, was a Nigerian immigrant, while his mother, Marilyn Blount, is an American.

Even though his parents named him Edrice at birth, his mother later called him “Bam Bam,” inspired by the American sitcom The Flintstones character.

However, his parents could not hold on to their marriage and eventually separated in 2004. He grew up with his mother in North Carolina, away from his Father, so he does not have a good memory of him.

His Father later moved back to Nigeria, where he died in 2020. After shifting to North Carolina, he attended Northside High School in Pinetown.

Marilyn used to work as a cashier on a local meat farm, and with meager earnings, she had to manage everything. Even though she faced numerous difficulties, she did everything for Bam’s happiness.

He had already begun playing basketball before starting high school. He showed great potential even as a kid, so she admitted him to the AAU to upgrade his game when he reached the high school level.

Moreover, he joined his high school team and did very well. However, he often faced racism while growing up, which saddened him as a kid.

He was mainly targeted due to his last name, which he acquired from his Father.

Adebayo was initially disgusted as he was not fully aware of the racist culture in America. But as the athlete grew older, he learned to take pride in his name.

Bam studied at High Point Christian Academy after his junior year at Northside. He graduated high school in 2015 and then enrolled in the University of Kentucky for further education.
